Write a short essay of about 400 words about the below stated issue: news and you.

How often do you read the paper or watch the news on TV? How important is it for you to keep up with current events?

            Everyday and every time people in the world need update about what is happening around them. They will feel left behind if not being update by the latest news. They are very much depending on these two sources which are newspaper and television. So, what is newspaper and television? These two newspapers and television are the most powerful form of media that exist in the world nowadays. But newspaper has come before television since long age's time ago. Television exists the new era time, so it is more modern and new.

            Newspaper is a printed media that brings the update on an upcoming event that happening to all around the world. It covers many issues such as current events, politics, informative articles, sports, entertainment, diverse features, editorials and advertising. Cost in getting this type of media form is still low. To me, newspaper is a powerful media form in distributing the news throughout the world. But since I am living in this era that is full with sophisticated technologies and gadgets, I am not into the newspaper. I rather search the news in internet using my computer. It is easier since I just can use my fingers to click finding the news in the internet than go buying the newspaper. It is not that I am totally ignoring the newspaper, but I still read newspaper when I am hanging out at the stall that provides it. There are certain times that I cannot surf the internet to find the news, so newspaper is the best choice for me to get the news.

            Rather than newspaper, television is the other media form which is the broadcasting type. Television is more advance in technology since it has moving picture and sound compare to newspaper that only can be read. But both media forms are doing the same job which is providing information to people. Compare to newspaper, to me, nowadays, I am not much into television type. It is true that television is more interesting but if looking to my status now, I am a student, my life now is busy with works, assignments and many things else until I do not have time for watching television. But during my secondary school time, I have a lot of time watching television since my home have television. It is totally different if compare to this present time.

            Although these two medium types of media form are different in technology, people more prefer with their own type of medium, but what is the important thing is the content. It doesn't really matter with the medium; it is the content that is important so the people will get the correct news not the fake one.

Week 3 Entry

What is theatre? How do you think theatre, as a media form, communicates messages to its audience?

          What is theatre? What inside theatre? And what theatre does? As been stated on wikipedia, theatre "is a collaborative form of fine art that uses live performers to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place." The combinations of gesture, speech, song, music or dance are been used by the performers of the theatre to communicate the message or experience to the audience. In other words, we can say that theatre have 3 elements which are performer, action and audience. Why? Performer does an action to the audience. A theatre needs an element called communication where the process of creating representation of meaning for the other people can interpret it. So it does apply to the performer creating for the audience to decode it.  As my opinion, theatre is a powerful medium in producing a massive message to the audience. As the audience watched the stage play (theatre) live, so the message that transferred is directly received by the audience.

          Theatre can be as one of the media form because it transfers message to the audience. We can see a form of communication happen in there. A theatre gives a meaningful information or moment to the audience to experience it. There is a lot difference when a person as the audience interpret the message that carry by the theatre performer live. With a great and awesome performance by the actor/actress of the theatre, it gives more sentimental value for those who love this kind of art. The audience will feel touched and mesmerized with the theatre performance. So, the theatre can be one of the media form used.

          The history of the theatre is it has become an oldest tool of communication since it started in 17th century. During that time covers many important issues such as politic, ideologies, current issue and many more. If we look at the acceptance of the society, we see that positive respond by them towards the theatre art. There are many plays/shows that have been conducted. This means that the societies are accepting the theatre as the one of media form as it provides information that gives lessons to the audience. In Malaysia, we can see the example how the society acceptance towards the theatre where theatre is actively shown at the Istana Budaya. There are many plays/shows played until now. And the response by the society is very impressive makes that the theatre side non-stop making a new show.

Week 2 Entry

Identify at least four social/cultural groups and what media you think they use. You can include photograph if you like.

            Media is a form of communication among the people throughout the world. How it works? It works by informing people about a particular event, issue, topic, gossip or incident that currently happen to the world. If talking about the uses of media, it is really wide use by the people. People uses media for them to communicate with each other, to share their event with others and many more. Nowadays, without media, people cannot have their entertainment, news, information and many wore. In other words, people nowadays are mostly depending towards the media to live.

            There are many type of media that exist in this world. Those media are can be divided to social media, printed media, traditional media, broadcast media and many more. For this task, I have to choose four social/cultural groups to describe their media that they use. The four social/culture group that I have chose are children, teenager, adult and the older.

            For children, regarding their age that still young, the media that suitable and been used by them is printed media. The printed media that they use are comics, education book, coloring book, spelling book and many more. All of these printed media are can be seen at the kindergarten. Kindergarten uses this kind of printed media to teach and educate the children. It is because this kind of media provides the technique that is suitable for teaching the children. Other than that, a part of education book, they also read comics as their source of entertainment at their age. There are many type of comics that exist nowadays in the new era.

            It is different media used by teenager group if we compare with the children group. For this group, their taste is different; they are more towards sophisticated era. They are mostly social media and mobile as their form of media that they use. The example of social media they use is Facebook. In fact, Facebook is the world's largest social media, with more than 900 million users and majority of them are teenagers. Other than Facebook, this group also uses YouTube as their media. For example, they posted a video showing their talent and share it in YouTube. So, they mostly communicate among each other using that two social Medias.

Now, we go to the next group which is the adult group. In this group, the media that they use the most is traditional media such as newspaper. Somehow, there are certain from this group that use social media. What can I say about this group is they are some of them that still wanted and willing to learn about social media that using electronic device.

            The older, the group that I think cannot accept anymore any kind of new technologies nowadays like mobile phone as their media. Like my parent, they are more comfort using the old media such as newspaper as their source to get information or news. If someone try to teach them using the new technologies, they will feel hard to get use with it.

1. Newspaper

Newspaper is a one form of communication that contains information of any event, issue or accident. It is majorly used by people in the world.  And it is also the earliest form of communication used by people before the existence of new media form.

2. Magazines

Magazine is an interesting printed book. It has become a form of communication because it is providing people many information. There are many type of magazine. It covers many topics such as healthy issue, entertainment, gossip, politic and many more.

3. Television

Wikipedia says, "Television (TV) is a telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images that can be monochrome (black-and-white) or colored, with or without accompanying sound."

Nowadays, we can say that each house has a television. So, television has become a form of communication that people get their news, entertainment or information.

4. Radio

Radio is almost the same as television, but is not displaying images. It is only sound that can be heard from it. It can be found in anybody house today and it is also attached to a car, so, everyday there will be people who listen to radio. Basically, radio provides hits song and also news to the audiences.

5. Internet

Internet is a medium that connecting million of computers through out the world. Services that people can get from internet are incalculable. What can we says is people nowadays are depend mostly on internet to do almost anything in daily life. For example, for paying any bills, there will have services that they can use in internet to pay for it.

6. Facebook

It is a social media type. It has been a one of the largest social media in the world. Facebook altered the way people communicate with one another around the world, quickly a new form of media in the process.

7. YouTube

YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users can upload, share and view videos. YouTube as a media form has become a place for people showing their talents such as singing, playing music and many more. There are many success peoples that they start with YouTube like Justin Bieber.

8. Photo

Photo also can be a form of media. It allows audiences to see new event or incident. As for example, it is used in Facebook, people use to upload or post their photo in Facebook to give update about their life. Photos are also be used for promoting their business such as a restaurant, allowing people to stay informed with their restaurant.

9. Video

Video is the one of the most recognizable forms of media. It allows audiences to visually gain information about a specific event, issue, product, advertisement or service. Nowadays, peoples are using video to promote their talent. They are usually posted their video in Facebook and YouTube.

Mobile is a needed by almost all people nowadays. There are many type of mobile phone such as smart phone. It is also a media form.             What is Media? Generally media is communication devices that distribute information to the people such as news, entertainment, data, education or etc. Media can be in many types. In other words, media is wide. Frankly speaking, it covers near to anything in entertainment world. Media are in categories of narrowcasting medium and broadcasting such as television, newspapers, radio, email, magazines, telephone, internet and fax.

            What and where the originality of word "media" is comes from? Media is a term that derived from Latin words, "medium", which gives meaning carrier or mode. Media indicates as an item that has been created to distribute the information to a large audience or people. The invention of newspaper and magazines has become the factor that the term "media" exist. This term has become widen when the inventions of television, Internet, radio and cinemas.

            As we look nowadays, media has become important as a part of human life. It has become almost as necessary as food and clothing to the human. Without them, human will like they lost a part that completed their life. It is been saying that media is playing a crucial role in strengthening the society. It has job to tell or inform, educate and entertain the people. What happen to the world? What is the current situation of the world? All of these, people will get this information through the media. The media can spread the information to the whole world in the blink of eyes. That shows how fast the media become.

            Talks about media, it can be mass media. Mass media can be used for many or various purpose. Many fields that are use media as their medium to deliver something. As for examples nowadays, mass media are largest been used in entertainment industry, advertisement, education, news and many more. If we look in the entertainment industry, as we know media is created purposely to entertain the masses means have to serve the people all over the world basically. Radio, television, cinemas and magazines spend most of their resources targeting on entertaining items and programs. In advertisement, media is needed for them to promote their item. Almost all business uses the power of media to sell their products. They have to be clever in designing the advertisement, because the more attractive the advertisement, the more people will like it. If we talk about the media in education, media helps to save a large amount of cost because the power of media is so huge. As for example, a classroom full with students that come from many places are being taught by just one teacher.

            In a nutshell, media has become a part of human life or factor that complete the human life when it is proven that media is widely used nowadays as the people medium to connect with each other.
