Week 1 Entry


Write an essay of 400 words on describing your thoughts on media use.

            What is Media? Generally media is communication devices that distribute information to the people such as news, entertainment, data, education or etc. Media can be in many types. In other words, media is wide. Frankly speaking, it covers near to anything in entertainment world. Media are in categories of narrowcasting medium and broadcasting such as television, newspapers, radio, email, magazines, telephone, internet and fax.

            What and where the originality of word "media" is comes from? Media is a term that derived from Latin words, "medium", which gives meaning carrier or mode. Media indicates as an item that has been created to distribute the information to a large audience or people. The invention of newspaper and magazines has become the factor that the term "media" exist. This term has become widen when the inventions of television, Internet, radio and cinemas.

            As we look nowadays, media has become important as a part of human life. It has become almost as necessary as food and clothing to the human. Without them, human will like they lost a part that completed their life. It is been saying that media is playing a crucial role in strengthening the society. It has job to tell or inform, educate and entertain the people. What happen to the world? What is the current situation of the world? All of these, people will get this information through the media. The media can spread the information to the whole world in the blink of eyes. That shows how fast the media become.

            Talks about media, it can be mass media. Mass media can be used for many or various purpose. Many fields that are use media as their medium to deliver something. As for examples nowadays, mass media are largest been used in entertainment industry, advertisement, education, news and many more. If we look in the entertainment industry, as we know media is created purposely to entertain the masses means have to serve the people all over the world basically. Radio, television, cinemas and magazines spend most of their resources targeting on entertaining items and programs. In advertisement, media is needed for them to promote their item. Almost all business uses the power of media to sell their products. They have to be clever in designing the advertisement, because the more attractive the advertisement, the more people will like it. If we talk about the media in education, media helps to save a large amount of cost because the power of media is so huge. As for example, a classroom full with students that come from many places are being taught by just one teacher.

            In a nutshell, media has become a part of human life or factor that complete the human life when it is proven that media is widely used nowadays as the people medium to connect with each other.

Trans-Disciplinary
  • is the exploration of a relevant issue or problem that integrates the perspectives of multiple disciplines in order to connect new knowledge and deeper understanding to real life experiences.

Qualitative Research
  • is all about exploring issues, understanding phenomena, and answering questions.

Ethnographic Research
  • is a qualitative research design aimed at exploring cultural phenomena. 
  • The resulting field study or a case report reflects the knowledge and the system of meanings in the lives of a cultural group. 
  • An ethnography is a means to represent graphically and in writing, the culture of a people.
